Set up
1. Selecting Status: Published or Pedigree
a. Published:
Choose this status when this individual is to be made publicly available on your website.
b. Pedigree:
Opt for this status when the individual is to be included in pedigrees only and should not be publicly published.
2. Uploading/Selecting Hero Image
Choose an appropriate image that represents the individual.
Image can either be uploaded from your device or selected from your media assets.
3. Selecting Page Design for Image
Depending on the resolution and quality of the image, select from the following page designs:
a. Large Centered:
Ideal for high-resolution and visually striking images.
Positions the image in the center and fills the viewport width, maximizing visibility and impact.
Recommended when the image is the focal point of the page.
b. Small Centered:
Suitable for smaller and lower resolution images.
Particularly good for older photos where the resolution may be compromised.
Places the image in the center, ensuring it doesn’t dominate the page due to its size or quality.
c. Side by Side:
Positions the image on the left-hand side of the page.
General information/content is displayed on the right.
Ideal when both image and content are equally important and should be viewed simultaneously.
4. Pedigree Name Field:
Enter the pedigree name here; this will act as the page heading.
This is a required field to facilitate easier identification of the page.
5. URL Segment Field:
Select a URL segment from the available options.
This will serve as a category or a sub-directory, creating a structured URL like
mydomain.com/urlsegment/
.
6. URL Slug Field:
Input the URL slug, which is generally the pedigree name, formatted to be URL-friendly, such as converting spaces to hyphens.
This completes the URL structure, creating a full URL like
mydomain.com/urlsegment/urlslug
, e.g.,mydomain.com/our-pugs/fred-the-champion-pug
General Information Fields:
Select Gender: Choose the appropriate gender from the provided options.
Add Call Name: Enter the individual’s call name.
Select/Add Title Prefix: Choose or enter the title prefix if applicable.
Select/Add Title Suffix: Choose or enter the title suffix if applicable.
Select/Add Coat Type: Choose or enter the coat type if applicable.
Add a Summary: Write a concise summary for listing pages. The summary will be used on an individual's page if the Content field is left empty.
Other information
1. Content Field (WYSIWYG/Text Editor):
Use this field to enter detailed content about the individual.
The WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor allows for text formatting, enabling a rich text experience.
Ideal for providing comprehensive information, insights, anecdotes, or any other relevant details about the individual.
2. Date of Birth Field:
Enter the date of birth of the individual in this field.
This provides context about the individual’s age and generation.
3. Date of Death Field:
If applicable, enter the date of death of the individual here.
Provides context about the individual's lifespan.
4. Owner Field:
Add or select the owner’s name from the available options in this field.
5. Breeder Field:
Add or select the breeder’s name from the available options in this field.
This provides information about the origin and lineage of the individual.
Gallery and Documents
1. Gallery Field:
Utilize this field to upload or select images, which will be used to create a gallery on the page.
The gallery opens up into a full screen lightbox, and users can scroll through the images.
The Title of the image, included in its metadata, will be used as the caption for the lightbox image and will also serve as the Alt text, which is crucial for SEO.
Ensure that the pedigree name of the individual is correctly entered in the Title field of each image’s metadata for proper organization and SEO optimization.
2. Document Upload Field:
This field is designed for uploading pertinent documents like certificates and health information, usually in PDF format for universal accessibility.
The title of each uploaded document, included in its metadata, will serve as the text link to the document on the webpage.
Proper and coherent titles are crucial for user understanding and SEO optimization.
Pedigree and Progeny
This section is vital for documenting the lineage of the individual, containing fields for entering details about the parents—father and mother. The below steps guide through the process of adding details in this section:
Father Field:
Check Existing Entries:
Before adding a new entry, click on the “Select an item” text in the father’s field to check if the father already exists in the database.
The drawer will open, displaying all available males to select from.
Add New Father Entry:
If the father isn’t already in the database, click the + icon in the father’s field.
Complete the relevant fields in the drawer that opens. At a minimum, the fields to be filled are Status, Pedigree Name, URL Segment, URL Slug, and Gender.
Mother Field:
Follow the same procedure as the father’s field to check existing entries or add a new mother entry, focusing on female individuals in the database.
Pedigree Publishing and Customization Section:
This section empowers you with the options to customize how the pedigree information will appear on the individual's profile page. Below is a detailed guide to the options available in this section and how to utilize them effectively.
Publish Pedigree Field:
Decide whether you want the pedigree to be published on the individual's profile page.
Check the box to publish the pedigree; uncheck it if you prefer not to publish the pedigree information.
Generations Field:
Select either 3 or 4 from the radio buttons to determine the number of generations you want to display on the pedigree.
Display Thumbnails Field:
Check or uncheck this box based on whether you want images of individuals to display in the pedigree.
Display Coat Field:
Use this option to decide if you want the coat information of the individuals to be displayed. Check the box if yes, uncheck it if no.
Extra Pedigree Information Field:
Add any additional pedigree information here, such as health checks.
Be mindful not to overcrowd this section; keep the information concise and relevant to maintain aesthetic appeal and readability on the webpage.
Progeny List Section:
The Progeny List Section displays the descendants of the individual automatically, based on the information provided in the database. The layout is intuitive, and the list is highly customizable, allowing for a seamless user experience. Here's a guide to navigate and optimize this section:
a. Progeny Display:
The progeny are automatically listed and displayed in this section.
This listing is derived from the information that is already available in the database.
b. Reordering Progeny:
If you wish to change the order of the listed progeny, you can easily do so.
By hovering over a progeny entry, the cursor will turn into a hand symbol, indicating that you can drag and drop the entry to reorder it.
c. Saving Changes:
After reordering the progeny or making any changes in this section, make sure to save the page to ensure that all modifications are applied correctly.
Show Results
The Show Results Section is dedicated to documenting and displaying the achievements and results of the individual in various events. The addition and management of results are streamlined, and modifications can be made effortlessly. Below is a step-by-step guide to navigate this section effectively.
a. Adding Results:
Click the “Create New” button to start adding a result.
A drawer will open where you will need to add the date of the event and the event name.
After filling out the event details, select the “Create New” button again to finalize adding your result.
If you have multiple results to add, continue this process as needed.
b. Saving and Reordering Results:
Once all results are added, click the “Save” button in the drawer, and then make sure to save your page to apply the changes.
You can reorder the results by dragging and dropping them in their individual items using the cursor.
